Arts

Downtown Photo #7

The arts are alive and well in Oklahoma City.

In fact, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art may be the envy of many much larger museums because it is home to the grandest collection of one of the world’s best glass artists, Dale Chihuly. The museum features a 55-foot glass sculpture by the master of contemporary American glass, as well as thousands of pieces in an amazing permanent collection. The center also offers other exhibits, films and classes.

OKC also has its own Philharmonic Orchestra, and theater companies presenting Broadway plays, contemporary works and musicals. The Prairie Dance Theater has been the city’s modern dance company for more than 20 years.

The Paseo Artists District is a vibrant enclave that is home to almost every style of art in practice today. The neighborhood also features restaurant, bars and entertainment. Many galleries operate in OKC as well.

The Red Earth Gallery at the city’s Omniplex museum is dedicated to showcasing and saving the city’s American Indian heritage.
